Life After Gen Con

State of the saurus Big

It’s been a crazy post-Gen Con week here at Pandasaurus HQ, and I must say that while the coffee in our lives may have indeed improved vastly, we are missing the hell out of all of y’all. There’s no better feeling than that of being around the good, like-minded peeps that are proud to call themselves board game geeks!

Speaking of which, Forbes just reported that there were more than 56,000 of you lovelies there; double the number of Gen Con attendees just five years ago. That’s crazytime, y’all! Table top gaming is growing, big time. And nothing could be better for the world than more Agricola and Sherriff of Nottingham and less Monopoly and Sorry. Sorry, Sorry.

I should also note that in addition to all of you, N also misses Pizza Hut (they don’t have them in NYC). Sad, I know. We’re surrounded by delicious, big-slice pizza, yet not a drop of the Hut for him to drink…

But back to the State of the ‘Saurus! We’ve got some stuffs to say!

First off, we know y’all are clamoring for a little piece of Machi Koro, and we hear ya loud and clear—we want nothing more than to get it into your paws! Sadly, there have been some completely unforeseen production delays. We wanted to make 100 percent sure that the final copies were completely up to our high production standards. Nothing but the best. BUT it will be out in a few weeks. So soon! And in the meantime some additional cool Machi-things happened this week, like:

-The beloved blog Geek Dad calling it out as one of the few games he actually got the chance to play at Gen Con. Jonathan Liu dubbed it “a delightful surprise” and revealed an upcoming review. We agree. But it’s not a surprise for us. Not sure where that leaves us… NEXT!

-The upstanding Canadians behind Watch It Played posted not one, but two Machi vids. Here’s the How to Play vid—which is super awesome if you’re wanting to learn. Rodney provides the best step-by-step guide we’ve come across heretofore.

Next up is their play through. Again, super helpful if you’re learning. Also, that family is insanely cute—good luck in Japan, Andrea! And because they’re so stinking cute, we’ll just maybe forgive them for calling Mr. Pandasaurus a “Pegasaurus.”

And once you’re done checking out the base game with that vid, check N and I on BGG’s Gen Con 2014 coverage where we show off the shiny, new Machi Koro Harbor Expansion!! Warning: I am shy and am cursed with the sad affliction known as RBF—DON’T JUDGE ME!

Check it out here, action (or in my case, inaction) starts at 2:00.

For videos where both people actually talk on camera, check out this BGG clip of the Great Kevin Wilson speaking with N about his upcoming X-Files game. Best moment: Beth Heile geeking out about X-Files parties in college. Check it out here, action starts at 5:30.

And that’s it for this week’s installment of the State of the ‘Saurus. Tonight there will be lots of beer and Sheriff of Nottingham at our local game night. The gods are good.

Machi Koro Harbor Expansion This Fall

Pandasaurus Games is proud to announce that the first expansion for Masao Suganuma’s Machi Koro—Machi Koro Harbor pic2034047_mdExansion a.k.a. Machi Koro Plus — will be available before the end of 2014. This expansion includes extra cards allowing for up to five players, two new landmarks (so that players must complete six instead of four), and ten new establishments. What’s more, with the expansion players set up the game differently each time a la Dominion with only ten establishments in play each game.

Its election time in Machi Koro and your mayorship is in peril. The citizens are no longer wowed by Cheese Factories and Coffee Shops. Winning reelection means going big.

Remember that bay that the cheese factories have been dumping their unsold Gouda into all these years? Your salvation lies in rehabbing that polluted body of water northeast of town. So get ready to roll up your sleeves and earn those votes.

A harbor with fancy boats and sushi bars and a shiny new airport will surely bring more gold to town and more gratitude! Sure, the city might not have the money in its coffers to pay for all this, but that never stopped you before.

The Machi Koro Harbor Expansion injects further excitement into the game that has everyone talking! Want even more fun in your box?! Perhaps ten new establishments, one new starting establishment and two new landmarks will help?

Machi Koro the Harbor expansion requires the base game Machi Koro to play and is designed to add more variety, strategy and a 5th player to the smash hit Machi Koro.

Say hello to more variety, more nail biting and MORE players!

The Harbor Expansion is an absolute must for bonafide Machi- whizzes and newbies alike!

Machi Koro: Harbor Expansion, expands the Machi Koro base game by adding thirteen new types of cards: ten new establishments, one new starting establishment, and two new landmarks. The expansion adds more complexity to the game, including seaports and airports that can be upgraded with additional boats (in the case of seaports) or facilities. Players also now need to complete six landmarks instead of four. Finally, with more establishments in the game, players choose only ten for use in any single game, mixing up what’s available each time you bring it to the table.

Machi Koro: Harbor Expansion includes cards that allow for up to five players to compete at the same time (82 cards total), while Machi Koro Plus includes only the new types of cards (68 cards).
