How the game plays:
In Sand Castles, players play 15 rounds, drafting tiles and adding them to their own castle. On a player's turn, they gather the number of tiles equivalent to the number of players. One by one, the active player gets to decide to place a tile now, or risk waiting for something better, passing the tile to other players.
Once tiles are drafted, individuals strategically build their castles to score points with windows, starfish, shells, shovels, buckets, and sky tiles. Some treasures reward sets, while others reward placement.
After all the tiles are placed, players count their points. Whoever has the most, wins!
My thoughts:
CONS
‼️ Instructions - I feel like the instructions could be a little more clear. I was confusing myself often, and never felt secure in what we were scoring. I referred back to the book every time we scored a game.
‼️ Scoring Windows - Rather than score your best row or two and earn points, you count every row and compare it to a chart to calculate your window points. It feels tidious and confusing.
PROS
✅ Easy to Learn and Teach - Made for a great family game, and it would be a nice filler for heavier game nights. 😁 It received the wonderful, “Let's play it again!” statement and “I love how chill this game is.”
✅ Unique and Fun Tile-Placement - We are big fans of tile-placement in our household. My daughter commented on the uniqueness of the drafting mechanism, and the chance for everyone to play at the same time as well.
✅ Pretty - The artwork and tiles pop with color, and are delightfully illustrated. It's cool to see what you built in the end.

Sandcastles is a delightful tile-placement game for the entire family. My wife and I enjoyed the press-your-luck aspect of either taking a tile or passing it on to hopefully get a better one with the next flip. Solid fun.
Solid game with good gameplay! Great for any beach lovers looking for an easy to pickup game!
We really enjoyed Sandcastles. Strategy is very light, all you have to do is draw a tile and place a tile. The scoring is where the game shines with many ways to earn points!
Nice filler game.
